Beyond the parlor you can see the enormous stucco elephant, originally constructed for the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1889 and moved to the Moulin after. For a single franc a gentleman would access the elephant’s belly by way of a spiral staircase up its leg, whereby he’d be entertained by belly dancers in a luxurious opium den.
